December Events for 2010

DEC. 3-4 – Ewing, Va. – Santa in the Wilderness at Wilderness Road State Park. Join Santa Claus and his friends in the Karlan Mansion for a magical evening. Children 10 and under can have their picture taken with the jolly old elf, receive a small gift and enjoy light refreshments such as cookies and hot chocolate. Children are encouraged to write a letter to Santa and drop it off at the park so Santa can take it back with him to the North Pole. Hours are 4-6 p.m. both days. DEC. 3-4 – Ewing, Va. – Frontier Christmas at Wilderness Road State Park. The Christmas spirit illuminates the Virginia frontier with music, dancing and caroling. Enjoy a candlelit tour of Historic Martin’s Station at the height of the yuletide sea-son. Take part in the historic activities or sit back and enjoy a warm fire in a settler’s cozy cabin. DEC. 4 – Elizabethton – Workshop: Step-by-Step Oil Painting at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Site with instructor Kay Braswell. Discover oil on canvas through wet-on-wet painting techniques. Beginners are welcome. Learn the Bob Ross techniques for painting or come to improve the skills you already possess. The workshop is $50 and includes supplies. Class limit: 15. Minimum class size: 6. DEC. 4 – Kingsport – Adopt A Tree at Warriors’ Path State Park. All area young people are invited to help brief “re-leaf” to Kingsport. Free tree seedlings will be distributed to plant in the park and at home. 10 a.m.-noon. Free.
